There’s a demon in this world and I plan to get him out
He slithers through my fingertips and climbs up the water spout
He swims in the air, traverses worlds
And opens his mouth, striking with words
He opens the door of temptation and leaves it ajar
People drunk with indulgence forget who they are
As he passes through forever, collecting his due
We writhe in agony; those who are left are few
While he boasts of his triumph and supremacy
We scramble for our hearts and humanity
Lost in a land of strife and upheaval
Why are we quick to sort out ethical and evil?
Where is this demon and why does he feed
On our egos , our desires and our need?
Perhaps his greatest weapon to put up a fuss
Is that we’re so sure he’s not one of us
There’s a demon in this world and I don’t know where he lies
But when I see my reflection there’s the demon in my eyes
